Health & Wellbeing Zone

The Health & Wellbeing Zone is an exclusive feature area providing early years practitioners with vital information to help educate and inspire.

Below are the details of the 2018 Health & Wellbeing Zone, visit us again soon to find out the latest features for Childcare Expo Manchester 2019.

The zone focuses on the key issues that children along with practitioners are facing when it comes to health and wellbeing within three dedicated areas each created and hosted by experts:

  • Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Area
  • Nutrition Area
  • Physical Health Area

As well as exploring the zone visitors will have the opportunity to get involved in a programme of sessions in the performance area to learn practical techniques and further explore this vast topic.

Visit the zone to gain insight, pick up ideas and inspire change to help the next generation to develop into healthy and happy individuals.

Nutrition Area

Created and hosted by The EYN Partnership

Get green fingered and sow your very own pea plants in homage to the EYN Partnerships wonderful EYNPea. Use your imagination to bring our veggie characters to life by giving them a name and you’ll be in with a chance of winning a Healthy Eating Song CD signed by the brilliant Ben Faulks! Fun for children and grown-ups alike, we hope to inspire you all to make a few simple yet positive changes towards living a healthy and happy lifestyle.

Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Area

“The secret to happiness is to start doing things that make you happy.” Robert Holden – Psychologist and founder of The Happiness Project.

You will already be working to promote the happiness and wellbeing of the children in your care but can you specifically state the activities that you use to promote Mental Health and Wellbeing?

Visit our Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health area and travel along the Five Paths to Happiness and Wellbeing. Engage in questions, activities and challenges. You will learn to think differently about things you already do, you can share your own ideas and find out about others’, and you can discover and try out creative activities to take back with you. It will even be good for your own Happiness and Wellbeing!

Physical Health Area

Created and hosted by Early Years SEN, Collar & Cuffs Co and ERIC

Early Years SEN, Collar & Cuffs Co and ERIC join forces to showcase low cost/no cost ways to enrich children’s movement and wellbeing, working on all areas of development from movement for calm and concentration, to early mark-making and eye tracking, through to supporting children with continence and coordination. Physical development rocks. It builds healthy bodies and healthy brains. Visit the area to discover new ways to use resources you already own, to build your understanding of neuroscience in relation to physical development, and for inspiration and advice on building children’s physical health, wellbeing, coordination and self-regulation.

The Health and Wellbeing Zone is enhanced with resources provided by TTS, visit them on their stand at the show for more details.

The EYN Partnership

Join Ben Faulks (also known as Mr Bloom from CBeebies) in the EYN Partnership’s interactive group session and learn to play ‘The Healthy Eating Song’ on the ukulele! Written by Ben Faulks and award-winning composer Richie Webb ‘The Healthy Eating Song’ allows early years practitioners and parents to use the power of music to sing along with pre-schoolers and help them learn about the importance of healthy eating.

1.00pm – 1.45pm: Multi-sensory approaches to exploring Big Feelings

A performance of our new multi-sensory theatre show ‘Crabby’, which explores anger, tantrums, frustration and grief through water play. The show is followed by a guided play session introducing the neuroscience behind the show and exploring low cost/no cost resources that can be used to help early years children manage big feelings. The show is fully signed in Makaton and can be tailored for complex needs; we model how Makaton and Intensive Interaction can be used with storytelling to engage and explore emotions and brain development. Co-designed with an early years consultant to ensure close fit with CPD needs for SENCOs, early years practitioners, parents and carers.

A performance of our new multi-sensory theatre show ‘You, The Loo, And Nappy-Nappy Noos’, which explores digestion, hand washing, hygiene, and learning to use the potty. The show is followed by a workshop session introducing the health and wellbeing theories behind the show and exploring low cost/no cost resources and activities that can be used to help early years children to improve their hygiene and toileting skills. The show is fully signed in Makaton and can be tailored for complex needs; we model how Makaton and Intensive Interaction can be used with storytelling to engage and explore toileting. Co-designed with an early years consultant, and with advice and guidance from ERIC (the children’s bowel and bladder health charity), to ensure close fit with CPD needs for SENCOs, early years practitioners, parents and carers.
