Get hands-on and join in with interactive workshops to get some innovative ideas to take back to your setting. These low or no cost activities will bring together education and play and are free for visitors to attend.

Friday 15th June

Childcare Expo

10.30am – 11.30am: Making the Most of your Mud Kitchen                                     

Catherine Clark, TTS Early Years Educationalist, TTS Group Ltd

Join Catherine Clark for a practical workshop, on Making the Most of Your Mud Kitchen. There will be opportunities to discuss the use of language enrichment, mathematical literacy, scientific exploration and so much more. Learn about the provocations for learning as you create marvellous, memorable mixtures together.

12.30pm – 1.30pm: How 15 minutes of yoga and mindfulness a day improves children’s mental and emotional wellbeing

Dr Kate Bartram Brown, Founder, Mini Me Yoga

This interactive workshop will show how you can bring a simple 15 minute yoga and mindfulness programme into a child’s life and reap the many benefits that yoga and mindfulness provide. The workshop will help you to share self-help tools with young children whilst having FUN to aid the prevention of many mental and emotional imbalances that we see in children. Looking at these ancient tools from a science perspective will help us understand why they are so effective.

2.30pm – 3.30pm: Movement Matters

Kim Pott, Director & Trainer, Funky Feet Music

Practical ideas to take away and implement demonstrating musical games to support language skills. Understand the building blocks to good fine motor development and control. An opportunity to participate in some interactive story telling through music and fine motor movement using instruments and body percussion. This session will require audience participation.

Saturday 16th June

10.30am – 11.30am: Open up to play with loose parts                                                                                            

Jo Baranek, Lead Early Years Advisor, National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA)

Open yourself up to the endless opportunities of play with loose and found parts. During this interactive workshop we will look at where to source the materials, how to use them indoors and outside and the different areas of the curriculum we can cover using these materials. We will focus on how loose parts can enhance your provision and provide opportunities for open-ended play and what this means for the children’s learning outcomes.

12.30pm – 1.30pm: Physical Development is Prime for a Reason

Sharon Skade, Under 5’s Training and Development Officer, GreaterSport

Physical Development is Prime for a Reason, it is The Bedrock of all Learning. This session will be practical and fun, looking at how to create opportunities for children to engage in physically active play within your setting, both indoors and outdoors.  Focussing on how and why we need to observe children’s’ movements, beyond the limiting Moving and Handling learning goals to ensure children in your care thrive and achieve their full potential.

Action Amanda

2.30pm – 3.30pm: Physically Fun

Amanda Frolich, Founder, Amanda’s Action Club

Action Amanda will teach you how to structure a 45 min physical development fun, fitness and music session into your setting! You will leave inspired and energised with lots of ideas on how to educate children to be active and healthy from an early age. Using our modern nursery rhymes and versatile props, learn through play the Action Amanda way!
